As triathletes, you practice a multi sport lifestyle, it is very important to implement strength training for injury prevention, muscular endurance and power to the disciplines you practice. However, many athletes tend to do the same strength workouts over and over. They don’t realize that their body will adapt and will reach a plateau.
Switching up your routine is crucial for an athletes success. Every month or three to four weeks you must change your exercises. Such as:
- Add some drop sets
- Pilates / Yoga
- Isolation exercises
- Circuit training
- Power Exercises
Another way to change up your training is by using slow and controlled reps (assuming you aren’t already). The key to growing is not flying through your sets. Use lighter weights with slower movement – four seconds on the way up, four seconds on the way down – for the same number of reps.
