You train for the swim. You train for the bike. You train for the run. But are you training your nutrition with the same level of intention?

Too many athletes arrive at race day with fitness—and a fueling plan that has never been fully tested. The result can be gastrointestinal distress, dehydration, poor pacing decisions, low energy, or a race that changes long before the finish line.

Nutrition is not a detail we add during race week. It is part of the training process. It must be planned, practiced, documented, and adjusted around the individual athlete.

What We Will Cover

  • The difference between daily nutrition and training or race nutrition
  • How to create a practical starting plan for carbohydrate, fluids, and electrolytes
  • How sweat rate, conditions, intensity, duration, body size, preferences, and tolerance affect the plan
  • How to train the gastrointestinal system during longer sessions
  • How to identify and troubleshoot common fueling and hydration problems
  • How to rehearse aid-station decisions and a complete race-day strategy

I will not give every athlete the same formula. Your plan has to fit your body, your race, your pace, the environment, and what you can actually tolerate. The objective is to leave with a clear starting strategy and a process for improving it through training.

Who This Clinic Is For

  • First-time triathletes preparing for longer-course racing
  • IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 athletes who want a more reliable nutrition process
  • Experienced athletes who have struggled with fueling, hydration, cramping, nausea, energy loss, or race execution
  • Athletes who have plenty of products but no tested system
  • Family members or training partners who help organize bottles, food, special-needs bags, and race logistics

Train Smarter. Fuel Intentionally. Execute With Confidence.

Why Practice Matters

A product that works for another athlete may not work for you. A plan that works in cool conditions may need to change in heat and humidity. What you tolerate on an easy ride may feel very different at race intensity.

That is why long sessions are more than fitness workouts. They are opportunities to rehearse timing, quantities, concentration, bottle placement, carrying systems, aid-station choices, and backup options. We practice the plan, record what happened, and adjust before the consequences become race-day problems.

After 25 years of endurance coaching, one lesson continues to hold: the strongest plan is not the most complicated one. It is the plan the athlete understands, can execute, and has tested under realistic conditions.

What You Should Bring

  • Your target race and expected race duration
  • The nutrition and hydration products you currently use
  • Notes from long sessions or previous races
  • Questions about symptoms, timing, logistics, or products
  • An open mind and a willingness to test—not guess
