Benchmark Weekend Recap: Building the Baseline with Kinvent, Winback & ReadyOS

This weekend was all about one thing:

Establishing the baseline before we build the load.

Before I ask an athlete to train harder, go longer, or push more power, I want to understand exactly where that athlete is today.

That was the purpose of Benchmark Weekend.

We tested.
We measured.
We observed.
And most importantly, we started learning the individual athlete.

What We Measured

This weekend we collected information across:

  • Run performance
  • Bike performance
  • Swim testing
  • Heart rate
  • Pace
  • Power
  • Cadence
  • Rate of perceived exertion
  • Kinvent strength and asymmetry testing
  • Winback recovery and activation sessions
  • ReadyOS readiness data
  • TrainingPeaks
  • Garmin and wearable data

The goal is not to collect numbers just to collect numbers.

The goal is to create a clearer picture of the athlete.

How are they responding to load?

Where are the strength differences?

How does heart rate relate to pace and power?

What happens to readiness before and after testing?

How do objective measures compare with how the athlete actually feels?

That is where this project starts to become valuable.

The Goal Isn’t More Data. The Goal Is Better Decisions.

A number by itself does not coach an athlete.

Heart rate needs context.

Power needs context.

HRV needs context.

Strength asymmetry needs context.

What matters is how those pieces begin telling the athlete’s story.

Kinvent: Measure

Kinvent – K – PULL

Kinvent gives us objective information around force, strength, asymmetry, and neuromuscular performance.

Instead of guessing where an athlete may have a weakness or imbalance, we can measure it.

Then we can come back later in the program and see what changed.

That gives us a true reference point.

ReadyOS: Understand Today

Bike Testing

ReadyOS brings another important question into the conversation:

What is this athlete ready for today?

That becomes even more valuable when we compare readiness against:

  • Garmin data
  • TrainingPeaks training load
  • Athlete feedback
  • Kinvent testing
  • Recovery
  • Performance

We are not relying on one single score.

We are learning how multiple pieces of information relate to each other.

Winback: Recovery + Preparation

Winback gives us the opportunity to integrate recovery and performance preparation into the athlete’s actual training week.

Instead of looking at recovery as something separate from training, we can begin observing how standardized Winback sessions fit into the athlete’s normal training cycle.

The BACK4 Care+ system also gives us a repeatable hands-free workflow that can be documented and followed over time.

We are not trying to prove that one session makes an athlete faster.

We are looking at the bigger picture:

How does the athlete feel?

How do they move?

How do they respond to training?

How does readiness change?

How consistent are they week to week?

TrainingPeaks + Garmin: Connecting the Story

TrainingPeaks will remain the backbone of the training program.

It tells us what we planned and what the athlete actually completed.

Garmin and wearable data help us understand what happened physiologically between training sessions.

We will continue tracking:

  • Planned training
  • Completed training
  • Training load
  • Heart rate
  • Power
  • Pace
  • Cadence
  • Sleep
  • HRV
  • Recovery
  • Workout compliance

That gives us a longitudinal view of the athlete instead of looking only at one test day.

This Is Where Coaching Becomes Individual

One athlete may produce more power but carry more fatigue.

Another athlete may say they feel great while objective testing tells us something different.

Another may show an asymmetry we would never notice by looking at pace alone.

That is why I do not want to coach a spreadsheet.

I want the data to help me coach the person.

The Real Goal

This weekend was not about proving anything.

It was about creating a starting point.

From here, we begin connecting:

Training Load

Recovery

Readiness

Objective Performance

Next Training Demand

Training Completion

That is the real value of the process.

We are learning the athlete.

We are building the system.

And now the real work begins.

Measure the athlete.

Train the athlete.

Understand the response.

Make the next decision better.

Train Smarter. Recover Better. Perform Stronger.
