Hector L. Torres Appointed to Americas Triathlon Executive Committee Representing North América

Today in Pontevedra, Spain, I was appointed to the Executive Committee of Americas Triathlon as the representative for North America.
It’s an honor to be trusted with this role. It also brings a responsibility I care deeply about: helping more people find a place in triathlon and giving the people who build our sport better support.
For more than 20 years, I’ve seen what happens when coaches, clubs, athletes, and volunteers come together. A local training group becomes a community. A new athlete gains confidence. A coach shares what they’ve learned, and that knowledge reaches people they may never meet.
I want to help create more of those opportunities across the Americas.
My goals include expanding practical education for coaches, developing high-performance camps, creating coach-to-coach mentorship opportunities, and reaching out to communities where triathlon has room to grow. I want to listen to what clubs need and help connect people who are already doing meaningful work.
This won’t happen through one person or one organization. I’ll be relying on our triathlon community—especially our coaches and clubs—to help shape the work ahead. When we support one another, we strengthen the places where athletes first discover this sport.

I’m grateful to everyone who has encouraged me, challenged me, and worked alongside me over the years. I’m ready to bring that experience to this new role, keep learning from others across the continent, and get to work.
