What Is Winback TECAR Therapy?

Reviewing the Science, Technology, and Why More Providers Are Integrating It Into Their Practice

I recently had the opportunity to host a presentation on Winback TECAR Therapy, where we reviewed the science behind the technology, the evolution of the Winback system, and why more healthcare providers, rehabilitation specialists, and performance professionals are implementing it into their daily treatment approach.

During the presentation, we reviewed how providers are integrating movement directly into treatment sessions rather than having patients remain passive on a table. In sports performance settings, this may include mobility drills, squat patterns, or activation exercises performed simultaneously during treatment.

One of the biggest goals of the presentation was to help clinicians better understand that Winback is not simply another passive modality.

It is a treatment ecosystem designed to combine:

  • Manual therapy
  • Electrotherapy
  • Movement
  • Muscle activation
  • Recovery
  • Functional rehabilitation

into one integrated approach.

As we discussed during the presentation, Winback was originally created to bring together:

  • Clinical assessment
  • Manual therapy
  • Physical therapy
  • Physiotherapy

into the same treatment session for the first time.

That philosophy continues to drive the development of the technology today.

Understanding TECAR Therapy

TECAR stands for:

  • Transfer
  • Energy
  • Capacitive
  • And
  • Resistive

Winback TECAR Therapy utilizes a high-frequency dynamic current ranging from:

  • 300 kHz to 1.1 MHz

The purpose of these frequencies is to stimulate the body’s natural physiological responses by improving:

  • Circulation
  • Cellular exchange
  • Tissue oxygenation
  • Lymphatic activity
  • Muscle recruitment
  • Functional recovery

During the presentation, we discussed how the benefits of TECAR current are:

  • Cellular
  • Diathermic
  • Analgesic

while also supporting movement and tissue recovery.

The Three Major Effects of TECAR Therapy

One of the key concepts reviewed during the presentation was understanding the three primary therapeutic effects of Winback TECAR Therapy.

1. Eliminate Pain

High-frequency current helps disrupt pain signaling by saturating nociceptors, helping reduce pain perception.

2. Free Up Movement

By increasing endogenous heat production inside the tissues, TECAR Therapy helps:

  • Release tension
  • Improve local circulation
  • Support tissue mobility
  • Improve movement quality

This becomes especially important when working with:

  • Contractures
  • Edema
  • Fibrotic tissue
  • Joint restrictions

3. Bio-Cellular Accelerator

TECAR Therapy helps stimulate intra- and extracellular exchange, supporting the body’s natural healing process and metabolic activity.

Understanding the Frequencies

One of the most important concepts we reviewed during the presentation was how different frequencies work at different tissue depths.

300 kHz Frequency

The 300 kHz frequency is designed to “look for the ground,” allowing the current to travel deeper into the tissues by following the path of least resistance.

When using:

  • CET (Capacitive Energy Transfer)

the treatment depth generally reaches:

  • 2.5 cm to 5 cm deep

This makes it extremely effective for:

  • Deep muscular structures
  • Fascial restrictions
  • Joint-related dysfunction
  • Functional recovery
  • Circulatory enhancement

500 kHz Frequency

The 500 kHz range is commonly used to:

  • Improve tissue healing
  • Enhance circulation
  • Improve fascial mobility
  • Support rehabilitation progressions

1 MHz Frequency

The 1 MHz frequency works more superficially and is commonly utilized for:

  • Skin appearance and tone
  • Facial tissue rejuvenation
  • Superficial circulation
  • Lymphatic stimulation
  • Wellness-focused applications

The ability to adjust frequencies allows providers to customize treatment depending on:

  • Tissue type
  • Injury presentation
  • Treatment goals
  • Patient tolerance

CET vs RET: Why Both Matter

Another important topic during the presentation was understanding the difference between:

  • CET (Capacitive Energy Transfer)
  • RET (Resistive Energy Transfer)

CET — Capacitive Energy Transfer

CET primarily works with:

  • Muscles
  • Soft tissues
  • Vascularized tissues

This mode is commonly utilized for:

  • Warm-up protocols
  • Recovery
  • Circulation
  • Mobility work
  • Functional movement preparation

RET — Resistive Energy Transfer

RET primarily targets:

  • Tendons
  • Ligaments
  • Fascia
  • Dense connective tissues
  • Bone interfaces

RET is often used for:

  • Chronic injuries
  • Tendinopathies
  • Scar tissue
  • Fibrotic tissue
  • Joint dysfunction

As discussed during the presentation, one of the strengths of the Winback system is the ability to combine multiple treatment approaches during the same session.

Beyond TECAR: Hi-TENS and Hi-EMS

One of the biggest misconceptions is that Winback only delivers TECAR Therapy.

In reality, the Back4 system integrates:

  • TECAR
  • Hi-TENS
  • Hi-EMS

simultaneously through the QuadriCore technology.

Hi-TENS: Advanced Pain Modulation

During the presentation, we reviewed how:

  • Hi-TENS

uses pulsed high-frequency stimulation to improve transcutaneous penetration and support pain modulation.

Benefits include:

  • Immediate analgesic support
  • Improved patient comfort
  • Enhanced low-frequency signal delivery
  • Reduction of skin resistance
  • Acute and chronic pain support

Hi-TENS can work through:

  • Immediate gate-control effects
  • Longer-lasting endorphin-type responses

depending on the selected frequency.

Hi-EMS: Deep Muscle Recruitment

We also discussed:

  • Hi-EMS

which utilizes modulated medium-frequency current to create:

  • Deep muscle activation
  • Muscle reinforcement
  • Drainage
  • Functional muscle recruitment

without aggressively stimulating nociceptive fibers.

One of the major advantages of Hi-EMS is the ability to:

  • Recruit deep musculature
  • Improve pumping mechanisms
  • Enhance circulation
  • Integrate movement during treatment

This creates opportunities for:

  • Rehabilitation
  • Strength activation
  • Postural work
  • Sports performance
  • Recovery sessions

CARE Programs and Hands-Free Treatments

A major part of the presentation focused on the:

  • CARE Programs
  • Hands-free functionality

inside the Back3TX and Back4 systems.

Programs reviewed included:

  • PAINFREE+
  • PUSHBACK+
  • REHAB+
  • RECOVER+
  • PERF+
  • FIT+
  • TABATA+
  • PELVIC+
  • MOM+
  • SLIM+
  • MUSCLEBACK+

These protocols are designed to support:

  • Pain management
  • Recovery
  • Muscle activation
  • Performance
  • Pelvic health
  • Postpartum rehabilitation
  • Circulatory enhancement
  • Wellness-focused applications

One of the most exciting aspects is the ability to combine:

  • Adhesive electrodes
  • Movement
  • Muscle activation
  • Guided protocols

while allowing patients to remain active during treatment.

Why Providers Are Interested in Winback
